The aptly named painted lady wears splashes and dots of colors on her wings. The adult butterfly's wings are orange and brown on the upper.

The four stages of a painted lady butterfly life cycle are the egg-laying stage, the larval stage, the pupal or chrysalis stage and the adult butterfly stage.

Adult Food: The Painted Lady prefers nectar from composites feet high, especially thistles; also aster, cosmos, blazing star, ironweed, and joe-pye weed.
